Worship music can come from almost anywhere. It doesn’t have to be a 200-year-old hymn, although that can work if it has meaning and resonance for a particular congregation. Inspiration could just as easily come from a country western song, an African chant, a Broadway musical number, or a jazz improv. Music lives in the balance between head and heart, so it allows us to express our spirituality in ways that words alone cannot do.
