Can it be Advent again, already? I’m not ready… But then, are we ever “ready” for Advent? Perhaps that’s the point: Advent is the time to get ready. And even as we prepare to find a new way to tell the story that everyone knows so well, we shouldn’t underestimate the anticipation and deep satisfaction people get from hearing it in the same old way. When the world changes as fast in a year as ours does now, there are precious few fixed points that we can return to and hold on to and steady ourselves against. To paraphrase an old camp tune, “Sing new songs and keep the old: one is silver and the other gold.”
