When I’m Feeling Hurt and Angry

From the ‘Sing Young, Sing Joyfully’ collection

1.  When I’m feeling hurt and angry

I will let my feelings out

Yelling all my pain out loudly

When no others are about.

When I’m feeling hurt and angry

I will hit my pillow hard

Till the angry feelings leave me

And restore my self-regard.

2.  When I’m feeling hurt and angry

I will tell a trusted friend,

Share my anger with that person,

One who doesn’t just pretend.

When I’m feeling hurt and angry

I will share my pain with God,

The Compassionate who loves us

Even though we’re sometimes odd.

3.  When I’m feeling hurt and angry

I will look inside my heart

To discover who has hurt me

With the wounds that really smart.

May my heart now see quite clearly

That each failure to forgive

Keeps alive those wounds within me

Which distort the way I live.
