Aid will never save the world
Without changes in our lives.
Systems which embrace us all
Foster wealth’s destructive drives.
Smiles that light the rich can hide
What destroys the marginal.
We are called to choose today
All that love finds seminal.
Let us name the ills that cause
Poverty and wretchedness;
Own how market freedom breeds
Many forms of wickedness.
Nature’s competition dwells
In a shared community.
Ecosystems limit growth
To preserve diversity.
God of balance and shared rights
May Earth’s wisdom teach us now
How reversing growth can save
People who to nature bow.
Living on a smaller scale,
Raising taxes on the rich,
Sharing all we have or own,
Saves us from consuming’s itch.
When we learn to share our wealth,
Learn to share life as a gift,
All the poor will have fair shares,
None will have to feel adrift.
Money lending will be shared
By the whole community.
We will celebrate as one
All life’s vast complexity.
