Compassion is fundamental to every faith tradition. It’s why we find a version of the Golden Rule so often (see “The Golden Rule” or Interfaith Golden Rule Poster).
But fundamental doesn’t mean it’s easy to live that way! We need constant reminders. A current favorite attributed to the Dalai Lama:
Be kind whenever possible.
It is always possible.
Love, care, lend, do good;
Only with our closest friends
As they will for us.
1. Imagination is the midwife of compassion.
2. Compassion belongs more to the gut than to the heart or the head.
3. Compassion is sharing the passion of the other as well as walking in their shoes.
God is the love that feeds my soul;
God is the love that makes me whole;
God is the love that flows from me;
God is the love that sets me free.
