“Our table is open to everyone because Jesus’ table fellowship was open to everyone.” Those words, or something like them, are part of many progressive churches’ celebration of communion. To follow what Jesus himself said and did, rather than what was said about him later, is at the heart of progressive Christianity.

All are invited to dine with the Lord.
All here are guests, honored and valued;
Come and break bread and drink wine: be restored.
