A new and innovative ministry is now available exclusively to Progressive pastors and congregations: Pastor2Pew. Our mission is to produce timely materials to assist progressive preachers in sermon preparation, and generally inform congregations about progressive theology.

The centerpiece is a collection of video interviews with prominent pastors following their approach to the lectionary text of the week. We will be looking over their shoulders (as it were) as they move from meditating on the text to its final form.

These videos will be supplemented by a blogsite where the community can come together to discuss various aspects of the text and how others are approaching their own sermons. We will share ideas, illustrations, approaches, homiletical structures, and the like.

You will also find helpful videos from the likes of Walter Brueggemann, Ron Allen, Sandhya Jah and others who comment on aspects of Progressive Christian theology.

So–how about jumping over to Pastor2Pew.org and check us out right now—it may be just what you’re looking for.

Our Purpose:
For most church attendees, the sermon is the highlight of the service. When a parishioner reflects on the value of the time spent in worship, it’s worthwhileness usually depends on the quality of the sermon. While many pastors would rather the service be valued for its many other aspects, the sermon remains the key in our day.

Poor preaching can be overcome through strong personal ties to the congregation in sacrificial service. Yet, there is no reason a pastor cannot improve, or actually excel in preaching. And everyone can improve no matter how skilled we are.

Pastor2Pew offers preaching pastors tools that can revitalize their preaching. We all complain that there is so little time for solid homiletical work. And we’re right! P2P offers a way to get to the heart of the Lectionary text for each Sunday through video interviews with leading experts in a very short time. For those with more time in a particular week, we offer “Digging Deeper” resources that will connect you to the sources used in the video.

These video interviews will not force you into a mold, but will give you the room to add your own personality and points of view to each sermon. We hope you will give it a try by subscribing on a month-to-month trial. All this for less than an occasional latte.
