For me, Christmas has always been about MUSIC and LIGHT!
My parents had a huge collection of Christmas albums which grew larger and larger with each passing year. I will never forget the time my Dad secretly recorded a cassette with every version we had of White Christmas and had it playing while we were opening presents. At some point, around the tenth or fifteenth version (Bing Crosby, Mel Torme, The Chipmunks, The Boston Pops … you get the idea) my mother turned to him with an odd look on her face and asked “haven’t we heard this before???????” OMG we still laugh about it to this day.
Then there were the years singing Midnight Mass at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in New York City. An orchestra and ridiculously wonderful choir making the most amazing, glorious, gorgeous music ever for hundreds of people in the congregation. And then long after that, all the magical Christmas Eve walks on Canyon Road when I lived in Santa Fe, singing carols around firepits in the freezing cold with a big family of dearest friends and passers-by.
Now (for the most part) my Christmas is quiet and intimate and I get to sing the carols I love with my beautiful bowls. The other night James and I decided to make a little video of one of my favorites — an old carol from Ireland — The Wexford Carol. Here it is, just for you. I have loved this song for years, from the moment I first heard its arching melody. I hope these sounds fill your heart with peace and pray you continue to shine your Light all through this magical season and in the year to come. Enjoy! And if you love the video, post a comment and share with family and friends to pass along the light. I read every single one and I so much appreciate hearing from you.
Happy Solstice! Merry Christmas! Happy Hannukah! Blessed Season of Light!
All my love to all of you.
