Corporate media and political parties try to reduce the election process into identity politics which has more to do with a beauty contest or a horse race than it does a deliberative choice of policies and values. Walt Whitman liked to say, “Be radical – be radical – be not too damned radical.” The challenge before us today is to be radical enough to actually close the wealth gap, protect the planet, reject racism and xenophobia, and establish universal health care, because nothing less is acceptable.
