    • About the Author:

Grew up an Army brat which took me to lots of great places to live in the States, overseas to Iran from where my family was evacuated during the revolution, and to Germany which might be the absolute best place for American kids to spend their high school years. Fell in love with reading and writing thanks to some very inspiring teachers at Patch American High in Stuttgart.

Then went off to West Point to become the next Patton where (instead) I met the lovely girl who would become my wife of 23 years and counting! Served in Desert Storm in the largest tank battle since WWII when German Tigers duked it out with swarming Russian T34s outside of Kursk. Did a stint commanding a basic training company at FT Knox which was a blast and served as a source for “Bound.” Got out after 11 years of service when the dot.com craze was at its peak and they were hiring anyone with a pulse – I qualified and landed a job in Boston where I started taking writing courses at the Boston and Cambridge centers for adult education. Went to a wonderful home church in Dorchester where folks from all races and backgrounds joined for authentic fellowship; there I learned and saw what I think genuine Christian faith looks like: loving, accepting, honest, broken, and flawed.

Moved to D.C. in mid-2009 for my (day) job and finished the first draft manuscript of “Bound” about a year later. Approached about 40 agents over 18 months and received lots of rejection letters. Read about some author named Phyllis Tickle in the Economist (GREAT news magazine by the way), read her book “The Great Emergence,” realized we were kindred spirits, wrote her, she read my manuscript, and she found me an agent. Hooray! I would finally be published. Except that agent had no luck with about 15 or so more publishers and he gave up after six months. I wrote Phyllis informing of my plans to self-publish. “NO!” she replied. “I feel it in my bones this manuscript should be published.” She approached four publishers: no, no, no, and finally yes.

I truly love to write, sharing what I hope are helpful life lessons, humor, and fresh perspectives. This first book (yes, I plan to write more) is for the disenfranchised Christian who would like to have a religious practice but doesn't see how given what (s)he knows about Christianity. I've been fortunate enough to find a way forward that works for me and I hope it benefits others. If nothing else, I hope to share a few laughs in the process. Enjoy…

Bound: an Earth Walker’s Handbook

Are there any fun theology books written with today’s reader in mind? Contemporary Christian thought leader Phyllis Tickle says “imaginative theologically and charming as well as rigorous, Bound, an Earth Walker’s Handbook is the best example I have ever seen of riveting and holy fun.”
