This day we have witnessed a man for all nations,
a man who was human, held fast what is right,
for this he would live with profound resignation,
he shone in the world, don’t extinguish that light.
Jesus, you were born at Christmas,
like us, a child of God.
1. God is at hand. A babe is born;
Proclaimed to be ‘The Light’;
With every morn
New light brings dawn:
And God is seen anew;
And God is seen anew;
And God, and God is seen anew.
Fire who burns inside the mountain
Earth who feeds the trees
Sea who sprays up like a fountain
Wind who sighs the leaves
Praise the universal Spirit,
Present as we draw each breath,
Live and move and have our being,
Pass at length the gate of death.
In the beginning, was Logos.
Logos — logic — reason — demonstration — Logos the Word:
But Logos could not be heard.
1. With open hearts we come this Anzac Day
To pay respect, to ponder and to pray;
We would reflect upon the pers’nal cost
Paid by those grieving and by all “the Lost.”
Contemplate all nature’s beauty
And embrace its darker side;
Life as sacrifice is ordered;
Sometimes life will be denied;
Celebrate with adoration
New growth after seeds have died.
These can be favoured times when life has dignity,
When rule of law and human rights breed liberty;
If justice is pursued,
If truth is not subdued,
If we decide to live in peace and harmony.

Are gospel stories right in what they say?
World religions foster justice,
Teach of wisdom to pursue;
Why then is there so much malice
In what some believers do?
All creation sings a story
Of great splendours to declare;
When we contemplate its beauty
We are called forth into prayer.
We, enchanted, stand in silence;
God discovered everywhere.
Eternal fury fires the saints,
who shake and rattle, push and shove,
who challenge every bland excuse,
who seek for justice, work for love.
Gladly we address our burdens
Through the mystery of prayer,
Lovingly support each other
In the privilege of care.
Over the years, I have become much more discerning about the music and the texts that we use. There are many—MANY—hymns that I have dearly loved since childhood, that I just will not use any more, because the theology in them does not reflect an experience of the Divine that I wish to perpetuate.

to colour this and every hour.
