Lesson 2 from Year One is about Who Was Jesus
The Jesus story offers a reflection of our own inner potential and a timeless example of how to live a life of God awareness and true freedom.
Finding ways to teach the Jesus story these days is both exciting and challenging. It is exciting, in part, because so much has changed over the last three decades, and it is challenging for the same reasons. Although Biblical scholarship has been around since the nineteenth century, religious and secular scholars have had far more freedom in the last thirty years to research the historical Jesus and the early roots of Christian traditions.
As scholars dug deeper into the search for the historical Jesus, they discovered that it was nearly impossible to find historical support for the supernatural Jesus who reportedly did miraculous things. What they did uncover was a deeply spiritual man who was revered by a group of first-century Palestinian Jews as their teacher (rabbi). This lesson introduces children to this Jesus.
