This sermon is about the American border policy of separation of families and the state sponsored abuse of children. However, it turns around the fictional story of Don Quixote. The magical aspect of the insane character of Quixote in Man of La Mancha is that he, through his delusions, is able to change the way that the abused servant girl, Aldonza, sees herself. His adoration of her literally turns her, in her own mind, into the lady Dulcinea.
This sermon invites listeners to see the families seeking asylum, not as illegal immigrants but as fully human people who deserve our respect and compassion. These brown children forced into cages are the princes and princesses of Central America.
These progressive sermons are available as podcasts at iTunes.
