Awaken O my inner self
Discern your Bethlehem,
Prepare to enter deep within
And wear your diadem.
The crown each infant wears of right,
As child of sky and earth,
Is gifted by the outer God
Incarnate in their birth.
Behind the doors within the self
There lies a mystic world,
A world of angel images
Where mystery is unfurled;
A world where light and darkness wed,
Where parts converge again.
A world beyond our outer needs,
Beyond all joy and pain.
The mystic sphere and tactile things
Form but one common thread,
A golden wholeness which enfolds
The living and the dead.
Within the myst’ry’s heart we meet
Compassion’s wounded hands
Which bid us all to join with God
In weaving healing strands.
