Eucharistic Prayer on Pentecost

Presider: God be with you

People: And also with you

Presider:  Open your hearts

People: We open our hearts to God

Presider:  We embrace all that is holy as we sing:  (Sanctus)

Presider:  On this Day of Pentecost, we gather in celebration of the gift of God’s spirit.  From deep within us, and from our daily round, and beyond all worlds we can be touched by this spirit. By the power of spirit, faith is born. Like the first Christians so long ago, we have many languages for faith, many gifts of the spirit.

Speaker 1 – We speak from our hearts, of what we know and love.

Speaker 2 – We speak from our minds, of our doubts, of our skepticism, searching for truths to live by.

Speaker 3 – We speak from our faith, be it fragile or firm; we speak of how it shapes our lives.

Speaker 4 – We speak from compassion, reaching to one another, stretching for understanding.

Presider: We remember the great story – the rushing wind, the tongues of flame and the many different voices, all hearing in harmony, the pouring out of God’s spirit on all people.  We remember Jesus’ promise to his followers to always be with them. We remember how, on the night before he died, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat, this is my body, given for you.  Do this in remembrance of me.”

Co-Presider:  We remember how, after supper, he took the cup of wine, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all of you; this is my blood poured out for you and for everyone.  Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.

Presider:  By the power of the Holy Spirit, may this bread and wine be the body and blood of Christ for us. May we receive them as the very being of Christ in us, and as the power of the Spirit to fire our hearts and minds and wills for love and service.  AMEN

Co-Presider:  And now, as Jesus has taught us, we pray

(Lord’s Prayer)

The Breaking of the Bread

Co-Presider:  These gifts of bread and wine, gifts of God for all people.

Presider:  Be what you see; receive who you are.

Post-Communion Prayer                                         New Zealand Prayer Book

Presider:  Let us pray together.

God of power, may the boldness of your Spirit transform us, may the gentleness of you Spirit lead us, may the gifts of your Spirit be our goal and strength, now and always. Amen.

The Blessing

Presider:  Life is short, and we do not have too much time to gladden the hearts of those who travel the way with us.  So be swift to love, and make haste to be kind, and the blessing of the One who made us and loves us and goes before us be upon you and all those whom you love, this day and always.  Amen.

The Dismissal

Co-Presider:  Let us go forth into the world, rejoicing in the power of the Spirit.  Alleluia, alleluia!

People:  Thanks be to God. Alleluia, alleluia!
