If passion urges us to take
Our inner dragon’s life;
If we think Michael’ s sword of force
Can quell our inner strife
Our child of inner wounds will cry
“My blood is what you spill,
Replacing tears that heal my hurt
With your fierce will to kill.”
Behind our fires of anguished wrath
Lie wounds from childhood days
That seem to have no place within
The Spirit’s joyful ways.
But wounds denied can eat away
At all that we hold dear
Until our life-force ebbs away
As love is killed by fear.
O Christ whose wounds are seen to heal,
O God of Calvary’s tree,
Your love can bind our gaping wounds,
Your power can set us free,
For if we love our wounded child
Until its hurts are healed
The beauty of our dragon heart,
Through love, shall be revealed.
