1. King David was a man of fire
Who sang and danced for God.
The raptures of his heart’s desire
Were sacred gifts from God.
King Solomon was very wise
In all he sought to do.
His reason and his watchful eyes
Were sacred gifts from God.
2. The scribes explored the sacred scrolls
To find their many truths.
Their study and their teaching roles
Were sacred gifts from God.
The priests in ancient treasured ways
Helped people’s worship grow.
These wonders which gave rise to praise
Were sacred gifts from God.
3. The prophets saw the fateful price
Of decadence and greed.
Their costly words of sound advice
Were sacred gifts from God.
Hard working Martha cooked and cleaned
While Mary knelt and prayed.
The insights they together gleaned
Were sacred gifts from God.
4. We all have many gifts from God
Yet no-one has them all.
We need the other people’s gifts
So we can all stand tall.
Help us accept each person, God,
With all their diverse ways
That we may spread inclusiveness
And share in common praise.
