Call to Worship                                                                                    Jannis

O Give Thanks to the Lord for God is good;

God’s steadfast love endures forever!

Let Israel say

God’s steadfast love endures forever!

Open to me the gates of righteousness,

that I may enter through them

and give thanks to the Lord.

This is the gate of the Lord,

the righteous shall enter through it.

I thank you that you have answered me

and have become my salvation.

The stone that the builders rejected

has become the chief cornerstone.

This is the Lord’s doing

it is marvelous in our eyes …

You are my God and I will give thanks to you;

you are my God and I will extol you.

O give thanks to the Lord, for God is good,

for God’s steadfast love endures forever.

Jesus is peace!

Come, savor the peace of Jesus.

Confession and assurance                                             Sharon

O Lord, we have sinned against you in word, in thought

and in action. We have not walked in the ways you have

taught us or worshiped you in the wholeness of our

hearts. We have sung praises to you when the crowds

were singing, but have not followed you in the suffering

of Calvary. Forgive us for our unfaithfulness and give us

the spirit of true repentance. For yours is the kingdom of

love and mercy. Amen.

God’s heart is always open when we confess our sin.

God will receive our prayers and bless the intentions of our hearts.

God’s mercy is from everlasting to everlasting.

God’s loving kindness is to all generations – including ours! Amen

Pastor Sharon LIttrell writes:

Soul Link Faith Community, a UCC/DOC congregation, is an emerging,

new church plant in the very conservative north central region of Pennsylvania.

We are deliberately inclusive, open and affirming, nontraditional – seeking those

who have been hurt by the conservative, punitive theology prevalent here. I

often make our worship “out there” to appeal to this group of seekers. As

the word gets out, we grow, albeit it slowly. The attached liturgy is one I

used this year.

Since Protestants often celebrate Palm Sunday then go directly to Easter, I

wanted my congregation to experience more of Holy Week. The attached liturgy

took us from children spreading palms for Jesus ride into Jerusalem through

his death. On Sunday, Easter morning, we enter the sanctuary that is still

draped, and a member of my congregation and I will take off the black cloth

(piano playing “Were you There”) then we will redress the communion table

with white parliaments.

When we worshiped on Palm/Passion Sunday, one of my most conservative

members told me it was the best worship service I had ever done. Another, my

most liberal member, cried through the service. (I have had quite a few

people cry when they attend our worship services though I think I am upbeat.

But I do know that they get emotional to find a church community that

accepts them and operates out of love.)

I hope this is the type of liturgy TCPC is looking for for the liturgy project.

Sorry I cannot contribute money.
