Poem to Mother Mary

“Blessed Virgin Mary, I’m coming full circle

and I want to be your…what is it I want?

I want to be your child and friend again.

May I?”

And Mother Mary says

“Of course, dear Mary, I’m delighted.

I’ve missed you.  But first let me ask you

never to call me by that name again.

I never was a virgin.

Well, of course, I was

till the Spring I turned fourteen.

By sixteen sex brought me right into the skies

into the eyes of God.

You know that blind, soul-shivering

sweet white light you want to last forever.

I was lucky with Joseph.

(Older men have some advantages.)

A pity I couldn’t tell my friends about it.

They were too busy pricking their fingers

sewing through hard leather ever

to listen to my unbelieveable joy.

Now for all this time I haven’t told a soul.

Today I’m telling you, Mary, my child, my friend

a secret that I’ve kept two thousand years.

I loved sex.”
