Norman Perrin
What did you think of the book? Did it affect you? What did you like? Dislike?
What are your impressions about Jesus scholarship (Chapters I and V especially)? How do you feel about knowing that most of the teachings ascribed to Jesus actually stemmed from the early church?
How would you compare Perrin’s book and ideas to those of Breech? For example, which interpretation of Matthew 11:16-19 about the children playing do you like the best (Perrin pp. 85, 120; Breech p. 22)? Why? Or compare the Prodigal Son (Perrin p. 94; Breech p. 184). Or compare the Sower (Perrin p. 155; Breech p. 89).
Did you get a sense of the theological interpretations of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Paul or at least that they have them? What do you think about that? What do you think about the pervasiveness of their belief in an imminent apocalypse?
