This collection of prayers comes from a decidedly progressive Christian point of view. They are more about changing us and changing the world than about changing God’s mind and getting a particular set of actions from God.
The prayers address everything from understandings of God to matters of justice to life in general. It’s a wonderful addition to your daily spiritual practices or to your list of resources for worship services or other gatherings.
From the Author: For years, I have shared my prayers on social media from time to time. From that, I have received many request to put some of them together as a progressive Christian resource. In doing my Doctorate work, I saw an opportunity to put that kind of resource together. It’s humbling and exciting to offer it to the public now. I hope to the core of my being that you find it to be a valuable new resource for your spiritual journey.
Review
“Dr. Sandlin did the impossible… he got me to read a book of prayers.” That’s about as high of praise as I could ever give this book. Dr. Sandlin got this curmudgeon who hates all these prayers to engage a book of his. Honestly, I would’ve never picked up a book on prayer if Dr. Sandlin hadn’t written one. But here we are… and I am pleasantly surprised. It didn’t hurt to get through it. In fact, Dr. Sandlin’s words were as sweet as honey. I imagine they were to God as well. So, maybe prayer isn’t so bad after all. So, after this extended diatribe I thought I’d give it a go… God be with those who engage this book. May every prayer be a call to action. Help them get off their lazy asses. Amen.” – The Rev. Dr. Jeff Hood Dean, The New Theology School
