The Energy of God

From the ‘Sing Young, Sing Joyfully’ collection

1.  The energy of God,

Like yeast within the dough,

Can take a sterile life

And give it strength to grow.

2.  As wine bursts ancient skins

God sets each captive free

From systems and from thoughts

Denying liberty.

3.  Each wild flower’s awesomeness

Reveals God’s tender care

For all that lives and moves,

For people everywhere.

4.  Just as the mustard seed

Grows up to shelter birds,

The pilgrim’s life is based

On actions, more than words.

5.  This way of life we seek

Is living at its best;

Good news for all the poor,

New hope for Earth’s oppressed.
