As a child cries out to their mother
filled with fear,
the hunger of necessity, and
overwhelmed by circumstance;
So too do we Imah, cry out to You.
As a youth complains to their father
filled with confusion,
the unfairness of life, and
the consequences of choice;
So too do we Abba, cry out to You.
Our fears – making us deaf to Your promise;
Open our ears to hear Your promise.
Our circumstances – making us blind to Your bounty;
Open our eyes to see Your provision.
Our foolishness – making us disregard Your direction;
Open our minds to learn Your wisdom.
Our transgressions – making us deny Your grace;
Open our hearts to receive Your love.
Transform our lives so we may become for others
The speakers of Your promise;
The purveyors of Your provision;
The teachers of Your wisdom;
The fountains of Your Love.
So through their fears,
We may teach them to sing Your song.
Through their trials,
We may teach them to celebrate Your dance.
Through their unknowing,
We may teach them to trust Your wisdom
Through their transgressions,
We may convince them to accept Your grace.
And we all may know, and we all will understand;
the marks in Your hands
are not from the nails of fear, hatred and ignorance.
They are the marks wherein we are carved in Your image;
wherein You fulfill Your promise.
wherein You provide Your provision.
wherein You teach Your wisdom.
wherein Your love springs as a fountain.
They are marks which the nails of crucifixion cannot destroy.
And within these marks
fear withers in love.
hatred dissolves in forgiveness.
ignorance is enlightened in wisdom.
They are what they are;
They are holy.
They will be what they will be;
They will be eternal.
They are Alpha and they will be Omega;
From which we come and to which we will return.
They are the hands of the One who loves us;
within them, You hold us.
within them, You sustain us.
within them, You give us life.
They are the hands in which we dwell;
with them You dry our tears.
with them, You provide for our needs.
with them, You calm our confusion.
As a child cries out to their mother;
so too Imah,
we reach with outstretched hands to You.
As a youth complains to their father;
so too Abba,
we reach with outstretched hearts to You.
Into Your hands, oh Lord, do we place our lives.
Into Your heart, oh Lord,
do we place our trust.
Amen!
