You can’t get to Easter without going through Good Friday. More abstractly, there is no light without darkness to contrast, no new birth without dying to the old, no spring flowers without the gestation of winter. If the death is not re-lived, how can the resurrection be celebrated?
Over and over again in the gospels we find Jesus face to face with a person in need of healing, in need of reconciliation with God, a person whose soul is burdened.
