Many progressive Christian communities have stopped saying the traditional creeds together, because they no longer represent what the congregants believe to be true. But that raises the question: what do we believe, if not the traditional creeds? Many churches are finding new words to express their common understandings, and by doing so can then revive the ancient practice of sharing aloud a common statement, as a testimony of faith rather than a test.
