The story of the visit of the three wise men from the East has inspired countless retellings. (Personally, it isn’t Christmas for me until I get to hear Amahl and the Night Visitors!) It’s the story of the fourth wise man, who stopped to help someone on the way to his rendezvous with the caravan, and they left without him.
